looking forward to this week’s LFPUG

23 09 2008

Really haven’t spent enough time ‘finenessing’ Flex based UIs recently, so especially looking forward to a something of a fast-track on Flex Effects in Tink’s presentation.

Always good to hear how others work with their clients too in the “ActionScript in Commercial Environment”session.

more mvc with lfpug

19 06 2008

Over the past few months I’ve been getting my head around the likes of Cairngorm, PureMVC and better use of design patterns in general. So looking forward to tonight’s LFPUG to see what the Slide Framework For Flex adds to the mix. The other stuff on large datasets looks pretty good too!

more capacity for this week’s FLUG

21 01 2008

This week it is a biggie with contributions from Adobe’s Serge Jespers and James Ward presenting Flex 3 AIR and Vega.

The event had reached capacity but with a new venue organised and more capacity, if you couldn’t sign-up over the last couple of weeks, you now have another opportunity.

LFPUG off to a flying start to 2008

4 01 2008

Again it looks like a couple of really interesting subjects on 31 Jan:

  • PureMVC
  • The 3rd Way: Handling 3D on the Web

More information is on the LFPUG site

I looked at using PureMVC previously for a simple tennis game, but left it aside in favour of building MVCish classes independent of any ‘framework’. I look forward to seeing if this decision saved or cost me time.

I haven’t got around to the obligatory 3D stuff yet. Personally I’ve always found it a bit of a red-herring, and one where the cost:benefit often falls short. So I’ll be particularly interested in seeing examples of good use.

flash ‘n hardware

20 07 2007

Looking forward to this month’s LFPUG meet-up on the 26th July and seeing what can be done with a Wiimote and a Make Controller Kit. Full details on the site.

Adobe Special - 17th April 2007

Presenters from Adobe: Mike Downey and Steve Burnard.

One not to miss!

LFPUG looking good yet again…

1 03 2007

Accessibility was always one of my chief concerns back when my work was XHTML/CSS. Since moving more into ActionScript development it has I’m afraid to say slipped somewhat, relying on the usual approach of Flash site with HTML backup. Niqui’s presentation I hope will help me get back into the habit of integrating accessibility into the process and maybe get away from needing a HTML backup?

The LFPUG presentations 29th March 2007

  • A Usability Approach to Accessible Flash (19:00 - 20:00) - Niqui Merret
  • Lighten up: Rediscovering Fun ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Aral Balkan

lfpug meeting on 25th

8 01 2007

If you are interested in Flash/Flex development and you are in London on the 25th, why not drag yourself along to hear about Flex components and Papervision3d?

Past experience tells me we will have good presentations and a good crowd.

reading list

24 07 2006

Commenced creation of my reading list of books and online references I have found useful. Initially concentrating on the Flash and ActionScript books I used to get involved in this technology.

attending user groups

22 06 2006

Over the past few months I’ve been heading along to meetings of the London MultiMedia User Group. Working usually alone, or at least the lone technical ‘expert’ on most of my projects, it has been really good to see and hear what other similar types are up-to. Great for self-assessing my own approach against contemporaries.

With London MMUG in recess until September 2006 Tink has established the London Flash Platform User Group, the first meeting of which was this evening. Two impressive speakers: Stefan Richter and Stuart Eccles.

One of the things Stefan sparked an idea as to why I’ve been struggling to get one of the simplest Flash Media Server tasks to work - including one of the tutorials from Adobe. More on this soon.

Having never even looked at Ruby on the Rails, Stuart’s presentation was extremely interesting and illuminating. I’ll defiantly be looking into using RoR on future projects. That seemed to be the consensus of the audience too.

I am sorry I had to leave a little early. Thanks to Tink and both speakers for putting in the time to make this happen
